Bitcoin's next chapter. Native yield enabled.

ABOUT VIA network

VIA Network is a sovereign,
Bitcoin-secured zkEVM chain that brings native yield to bridged assets.

Ethereum users can bridge assets to VIA and receive vTokens that earn yield automatically. Bitcoin users can bridge BTC to access VIA DeFi, without yield (coming soon). VIA becomes the meeting point where Bitcoin and Ethereum liquidity converge to unlock the full potential of DeFi.

With Bitcoin’s massive liquidity, BTC users can access yield-generating opportunities across VIA’s DeFi ecosystem. Ethereum bridged assets earn yield through VIA’s vault system, secured by Bitcoin and finalized through a decentralized zero-knowledge verifier network.

How to Use

STEP 1

Bridge

Users bridge assets from Bitcoin or Ethereum.
STEP 2

Transform

Receive vTokens that automatically accrue yield for bridged Ethereum assets (BTC coming soon!)
STEP 3

Use

Pay transaction fees, trade, lend, or LP while earning and accessing the full DeFi ecosystem.

VIA Network Features

Bitcoin Security, Modern Scalability

VIA anchors its state to Bitcoin’s trust layer while using zk-rollup scalability to deliver a secure, high-performance environment for decentralized applications.

EVM Compatibility with BTC as Gas

Deploy Ethereum-based smart contracts on a Bitcoin-secured zkEVM. VIA offers full EVM compatibility, with gas abstracted through paymasters so users can pay fees in BTC or vTokens (or other methods, e.g. NFTs)

Built for Builders, Powered by Bitcoin

Developers can launch DeFi, NFTs, and next-gen protocols with the reliability of Bitcoin and the speed of modern rollup technology.

The Connection Between Ecosystems

VIA brings together Bitcoin’s liquidity and Ethereum’s innovation, unlocking the full potential of Bitcoin assets through DeFi.

Via Economy

vTokens, the core asset of VIA economy

vTokens (VIA Tokens) aren't just passive receipts; they're fully composable assets that power the entire Via ecosystem.

Native Utility Across the Chain

vTokens are natively supported within VIA, enabling users to:
Pay Transaction Fees
Pay transaction fees directly using vTokens. No separate gas token required.
Trade on DEXes
Trade on DEXes (e.g., vUSDC/vUSDT pairs and other vToken markets).
Provide Liquidity in AMMs
Provide liquidity in AMMs and earn additional rewards on top of base yield.
Use as Collateral
Use as collateral for borrowing and lending across all DeFi applications on VIA.
vTokens are the foundation of VIA’s productive Layer 2. Assets can move, earn, and build value across the Bitcoin-secured DeFi ecosystem. Transfer, trade, lend, and compose assets freely across VIA.
YIELD on via

How yield works on VIA?
Generate multiple layers of yield within the VIA ecosystem.

When users bridge assets from Ethereum, they receive vTokens that begin earning yield automatically through VIA’s vault system. VIA’s vaults lend through the most secure Ethereum protocols like Aave, Compound, Curve, etc.
vTokens can be used additionally across VIA’s ecosystem, to earn yield on top of base yield.
Example Yields
Base Yield from Ethereum Protocols
5% APY
Additional Yield from VIA Protocols
8% APY
Effective APY
13%

Frequently asked questions

What is vToken?

vToken is an ERC-4626 yield-bearing token native to VIA L2. It represents a user's share of the underlying lending pools on Ethereum, where their bridged assets are deposited. vTokens continuously accrue value as interest is earned on Ethereum, and at any time they can be redeemed for the underlying assets plus yield. On VIA, vTokens are the default currency. They can be used to pay transaction fees, provide liquidity, swap, or serve as collateral in other DeFi applications.

How does a user harvest their yield on VIA and Ethereum?

This yield can be used directly on VIA, as this token is an ERC-Yield that accrues automatically within the redemption value of vTokens. Users do not need to manually "claim" rewards. On VIA, the vToken balance in a wallet remains the same, but its redemption rate into the underlying asset increases over time. When a user redeems vTokens (either on VIA or back on Ethereum), they receive the underlying principal plus accrued yield. And this yield can be used directly on VIA, as this token is an ERC4626.

What can users do with vTokens?

vTokens are fully composable assets within the VIA ecosystem: Pay transaction fees on VIA. Provide liquidity in VIA's native DEX pools. Trade and swap like any ERC-20. Post as collateral for borrowing or derivatives. Simply hold as a yield-bearing store of value. All of these uses are possible while vTokens continue to accrue yield from the Ethereum lending pools.

Can a user redeem their tokens at any time?

Yes. vTokens are fully redeemable at any time. A user who holds vTokens on VIA can exit the system by bridging back to Ethereum, where their share of the underlying lending pool is unlocked. Redemption always reflects both the principal and the accumulated yield up to that moment. If a user tries to redeem assets and there's no liquidity, the transaction will revert and fail because the smart contract cannot fulfill the request. To enable redemption, the user must wait for more liquidity to be supplied to the pool or for existing borrowers to repay their loans. They might also need to monitor the pool's utilization rate to see when liquidity becomes available.

How often is the vToken exchange rate updated?

The redemption rate of vTokens is updated on a regular schedule to reflect interest accrued in Ethereum lending pools. By default, this happens hourly, but the update frequency can be reduced to every five minutes or less, depending on network activity and liquidity conditions. This ensures that yield accrual remains responsive and accurate without sacrificing efficiency.

Can I use VIA Network Bridge now?
